Morley’s Final Catalogue: A somewhat local species, on birch. Bentley Woods in September, Foxhall and Bradwell in June (Mly); also at Barton Mills in August (Trans, ii, p. cii) and Tuddenham (Wrn).
Recent Status: A rare Suffolk species.
Life Style: A single brooded species flying during August and September. The larvae feed from folded or spun terminal leaves of Betula. They pupate in a cocoon on the ground.
Identification: The moth has dark brown forewings with paler paired costal strigulae. The moth has prominent white patches on the dorsum at one half and on the tornus. These are sometimes joined. It could be confused with some forms of Epiblema scutulana however Epinotia trigonella has palps when seen from above that project beyond the head at least as far as the head is deep. The palps of Epiblema scutulana are scarcely visible from above. More Info
